- ilovepdf.com
And as you may guess from the title, it's got everything to do with PDF’s. You can edit PDFs there, you can convert them to other formats, you can convert formats like a Word document to a PDF, and the thing about this one, and all the other ones I'm going to mention, are completely free. You don't have to download anything, so if Adobe Acrobat costs money, or some of the other PDF editors cost money or make you download something, you don't have to do any of that with this site.
- virustotal.com
Here you can scan files and websites for viruses if you think a link may be sketchy. You can either look it up by a URL (i.e. google.com) and see if that is safe, or you can drag and drop files that you've already downloaded but haven't installed yet. I will say it's not as good as a paid service like McAfee or some other antivirus that you install on your computer, but it is better than nothing in. It does provide a little bit more peace of mind.
- wordhippo.com
It's exactly like Thesaurus.com, but infinitely better. There are more synonyms for the word you're looking up, you can look up phrases, you can look up sentences with particular words in them, and you can even do some basic translations. It is just such a better tool overall and has way more functionality than Thesaurus.com, and it's still super easy to use. You can just look up words in it, you don't have to do anything else with it. It’s not like you have to be super skilled with computers to get this. It's very basic and user-friendly.
- smile.amazon.com
This is exactly like Amazon in every single way, but instead, if your product qualifies, the Amazon Smile Foundation makes a donation to a charity that you choose. The donation is just 0.5% of the purchase, but it is better than nothing and it doesn't change the price for you at all. The money comes out of Amazon's end and goes straight to your charity. It does sound almost too good to be true, so I'm sure if you look a little bit harder, there probably is some sort of catch somewhere along the way, but at least on the consumer end it doesn't appear that there is.
- temp-mail.org | 10minutemail.com
The thought behind these is that they generate some random email address that no one has and that no one would ever have (because it's not like @gmail or @yahoo or anything like that), and you can use it to sign up for things like free trials. Not only could you potentially get more free trials, but you also don't have to get all those annoying emails; you don't get on the spam list. They don't sell your information because it's not your information, it's not anyone's information, it's just a randomly generated email address. I will say that sometimes you do have to sort of alter it on your own, which can cause some problems, because some websites are smart enough to guard against this sort of thing. In some of those cases, you can add a number or something at the end and then usually it'll work. The only caveat there is that if they do send verification emails to make sure that it's actually your address, obviously you won't get it. But, if you do use this and the website does allow one of the email addresses from one of these two websites, they both have an inbox where you can get messages and click on those verification links. As the names suggest, these are only temporary, usually about ten minutes (especially in the case of 10minutemail.com). temp-mail.org is a little bit more restrictive in that you can only get a new one every so often (you have to upgrade to get a new email address more frequently), but 10minutemail.com is actually pretty good.
This is only a limited set of websites. I have so many more that I can list off and go over, so think of this as a “part one”. Stay tuned in the future for other websites that can help boost your productivity in your everyday life!
